WELCOME TO KINDERGARTEN MUSIC
Music time has begun! Learning and Fun!
|
First Graders are learning to play floor xylophones with high/low movement. Drumming technique on out tubanos is adding dimension to our songs. Combining melody and rhythm is FUN! Ask about "CREAKY STAIRS". We are also using instruments to describe characters in our song " SKIN and BONES". Dancing movement and percussive sounds brings " SKELETON SHAKE". |
2nd Graders are expanding their knowledge of melodic movement and rhythm.
We are exploring minor sounds in the song "SPOOKY UKEE" by using step and skip direction on the xylophones. Even ukuleles can sound spooky when they play a minor chord. Poking fun at our vampire friend in " HAVING A BAD SCARE DAY" and singing with a spooky and spoofy vocal approach is in order!

3rd Graders are all a buzz with their new recorders! Noise galore... YIKES! We are learning about correct instrument position and playing technique. Note reading is an everyday procedure and very important. We are working diligently to learn the names of the notes on the treble clef staff. Recorder Karate is taking over as students are passing songs to obtains their belts! There are nine belts from white to black. The belts in music are actually yarn that attaches to the recorder neck strap or the case itself. We are strengthening our note reading by combining songs with recorder and xylophones. Ask about BIG BEN ! One of our favorite song is "SPOOKY NIGHT" ( it mimicks the "Phantom of the Opera" and we call it the" Thriller of the Opera"! This is cool to play on xylophones and adding the drums for the rock beat is awesome.
4th Graders are enjoying increased playing ability on their recorders and making use of their knowledge to play more difficult songs. Note reading is still an essential and we love the STAFF WARS GAME. I have an interactive white board which allows us to all visualize and learn together. This game helps reinforce the notes and their names and position on the musical staff. In our case.. the treble clef. Other clefs can also be used if your child plays an instrument that uses another clef. ( Bass or alto). Students are also learning to harmonize by playing different parts on their recorders at the same time. This really opens up our musical world! The recorder song "BELLA'S BLUES" is a good example of this. Many fourth graders have started Band and Orchestra to add to their musical journey.
5th graders have reached their final year here at Elementary South! This is their big year with the music program in May. We incorporate so much of their musical experience into that performance. We have explored some popular songs on the site odogy.com. It reinforces our note reading and helps us establish rhythms. We have played the theme song from the classic ADDAM'S FAMILY theme song on xylophones and recorders. What fun! Another great song from the Off-Broadway musical hit
"Little Shop of Horrors" is a great song for recorders with fast rhythms and note playing agility!
